I've been mostly in my bed for the last 6-7 days. I got exposed to a virus on April 24th, and it had me in bed by the following Tuesday, May 1. I thought I was better on the 3rd, got up and did some running around, and that was all she wrote.
Down until this morning. The first thing I did was drink a 20 ounce water, since I'm so dehydratated.
I still have a cough, but I feel much better. The sore throat is still here, too. Why? Doesn't make sense. But I feel like I'm on the mend, finally.

I'm so sick!!
The last cold - what was it a month ago? Was bad, but this one is wiping me out! My ears hurt, my hair hurts. I'm up eating some soup, about to go back to bed for a 2nd day.
This sucks!
This sucks!

Cat Hair Eradication....
I vacuumed yesterday. For folks who know me, this is a monthly occurrance, and I hate every minute of it. It hurts my back. After $100K of back surgery, I have a reason to not like back aches...
So, I vacuumed the rugs yesterday. I cleaned in general, and I really hate housework. If I could afford a weekly service to come in, I'd have one!
Well, I have this really nice, red, oriental rug in my living room, on top of the carpet. It designates the living room portion of the room, and gives the cats a nice, centralized place to play and be in my eye-view. They get catnip on the rug, too.
My horrible, heavy, and unweildy vacuum (it's a very good, large, canister vac) didn't pick up the hair this time on the red rug. So, I tried the upholstery attachment. It worked. It took about an hour, on the floor, but I got the hair off the rug. It looked brand new - for about an hour.
I hurt today. Aleve, and a hot shower (with the massage on the nozzle working at full), have only done a slight job to relieve the ache. I won't be doing much of anything today.
I learned a long time ago, that when my back hurts, things stop. I stop. No standing, no heavy lifting, no bending, no laundry, no cleaning, no gardening...
Sitting, sleeping; that's about the limit today.
Maybe I'll crochet some more. I almost have the 4th bag filled, and that means I have enough pieces to begin the planning of the final garment. I have enough for the framework, and some general color planning. I have a lot of white yarn and the rest of my work will be using that.
On another note, it turns out that the crud in my lungs is responding well to alkaline foods. I cough a lot less, and the congestion is easing off.
And Beasley is a sweet lover, so his cuddles always make me feel better...

Feeling Better, But....
I heard this is the crud going around that turns into pneumonia....
She said it's pH related. So, no coffee, no dairy, no sweets, no citrus, no beef or pork, and so on...
Eat as alkaline as possible, keep the tissue from swelling.
During sleep, my nose is clear. I get up, it starts to congest and run again. I figured I just needed to vacuum, which I do anyway. One person has had this for 8 weeks and is still sick. I've had it for 2+ weeks, and I'm over it.
So, I'll adjust my diet, which I was doing anyway, and maybe even feel a little better.
------
Meanwhile, I've been crocheting. I hit the sales right after Christmas and got more yarn. I ran out of yarn (or very close) for my coat project. I'll try the framework again next week, and begin laying out some of the larger pieces to see where I am as far as how much I still need to crochet. I am sure that I don't have enough pieces, but I wonder if I need another run to the yarn store...

And another update on Walmart-
They are closing their crafts/yarn/fabric section.
I boycott Walmart. They come in to a town, undercut all the prices of all the mom-n-pop stores, and put them out of business. OK, low prices are great, but these little stores have been around forever and have a lot of variety in them. They are fine-tuned to the neighborhood where they are located, or they wouldn't still be in business. Suddenly, you have to go to Walmart, and some of the speciality items are no longer available.
Next, Walmart stops carrying whole lines, like the crafts/fabric/yarn section they are pulling out of the local store. Now, you can't find those items within a 200 mile radius. Whole ways of life are being changed and ruined by Walmart because of their predatory tactics.
I believe in shopping locally. Groceries, produce, mom-n-pop stores. There are some chains/franchises that I will use, such as Pet Supplies Plus. That is a regional chain - Tennessee and North Carolina, a little in Virginia. They are not nationwide. I stopped using Walgreens as much. I go to a large chain grocers because that's what is available, but Food City is my choice, and the chain is not as large as the other chain in town. I also like their produce better.
I like Earth Fare, which is a local green-grocer chain. They are knocking on the door of the chains, and they carry more of the healthier choices and brands than the others. I'm not always in the neighborhood for them, though. We also have a food co-op here that I frequent, Three Rivers.
Shop locally. Support your local infrastructure. If you don't, you won't have a job or a place to shop pretty soon. And your opinion won't count! Remember that special item that you could always get at the neighborhood shop that isn't available anymore?
It used to be that if I wanted something special, the manager of the grocery store would order it. Not so much anymore. I have to go to several stores, looking, and maybe find it - or not. I end up requesting it or getting it online a lot of the time. Costs more that way.
So, support the local shops. You never know when your choice will be taken from you. Good prices aren't the only reason to shop somewhere.

Been Dealing -
There are lots of things I've wanted to write about - Blog about - recently. I have been unable to sit at the computer long enough to do so.
Boy! Do I NEED a laptop!
I've been ill, and worse, in a lot of pain. I fell again yesterday - have a beautiful purple bruise on my upper arm.
I've been yelling at the radio. Patraeus is saying nothing. Nada. Zilch. He's a Bush cronie.
Right now, I'm mostly angry about the way the war in Iraq has been privatized. At 3750 dead Americans, who knows how many Iraqis and add the other nation's dead and damaged. Then, the kicker, the "secret" injuries and dead of the private armies of "security" for all of Cheney's cronies. All those companies that swarmed over Iraq to "rebuild" it (and fill their pockets).
I watched "The Aviator" recently, and according to the movie, Howard Hughes got called before a Senate Subcommittee for $43 million. How much has been squandered in this war???
